When The Cat's Away...

Bill
was a talented CEO leader with a charismatic personality who had loyal and
deeply committed top team. He had built
a multi-million dollar business over 25 years and was justifiably proud of his
accomplishment. His leadership team was
amazingly talented in their respective disciplines. Of late he had taken several lengthy vacations
and now was complaining to me that his top team was in turmoil. Unfortunately, he saw little connection
between his absence and the increasing tension on the leadership team. Annoyed by their childish behavior he was now
on the warpath. He summoned each top executive into his office and insisted
they play well together. He explained
that he was tired of their childish disputes and would no longer play “Dad the Referee” for their frequent
spats. While he was satisfied that he
had solved the problem, he looked tired, frustrated and disappointed. Do you think he’s solved the problem?
Imagine how a world class EOS Leadership Team would Identify, discuss and solve this issue. I’m certain that after a heated conversation, the root cause would be identified as lack of the Integrator function on the management team. For in that seat resides the responsibility for creating harmony on the team. High powered, talented leaders often find it difficult to “Play nice together.” Bill, while a gifted Visionary leader, has little time for meetings let alone trust building exercises desperately needed by this team. As a Certified EOS Implementer, I see Bill’s affliction in many teams. So common is the condition that it deserves its own medical terminology. Let’s see—let’s call it “ Careo Intergratus”, latin for “lack of intergrator”. Left untreated it can be fatal. Will Bill seek a cure by hiring a talented intergrator or will he continue to suffer in silence. As my Irish Grandma used to say, “God know, for certainly I don’t.”
