What’s your “Say/Do” Ratio?
Monday, August 24, 2015
One of the greatest skills for a
leader is the ability to “do what they say.”
Delivering on our commitments generates trust, dependability and
consistent execution on every team that I’ve coached. As with everything else, it starts at the
top. So, what’s your “Say/Do” ratio? Of
all the commitments you make, how many do you actually do? And, recall the language you may use. How
many comments start with “we should”?
How many suggestions start with “I will”? That’s usually a leading indicator of high or
low your personal “say/do” ratio is?
As a Certified EOS Implementer, I’ve
discovered that the “say/do” ratio is a critical measure of a team’s
effectiveness. Each executive is charged
with identifying his or her top 3-5 priorities every quarter. We call them “Rocks.” After sharing them with the team for
feedback, executives publicly commit to the team their successful
accomplishment. Then, 90 days later, at
the Quarterly Pulsing Meeting, the team calculates its “Rock Completion Score”
for the entire team and for each executive on the leadership team. Wow, it’s
almost magical how this simply exercise inspires a team to get real, get
focused and get results. I’ve seen it
happen with my EOS clients and I know it can happen for you. I challenge you.
